Software Coordinating Committee Conference Call May 31, 2001 3:00 PM EDT Amended June 1, 2001 Recorder: C. DeTar Present: Celso, Holmgren, Mawhinney, DeTar, Watson, Edwards, Brower ** = action required 1.) Future meeting schedule: Regular intervals. **Schedule to be arranged via e-mail. **Web site for minutes and other documents to be arranged by Rich. 2.) Jlab Myrinet work (Chip Watson) See draft sketch of API plans. See spreadsheet showing effects of changes in latency on performance. ** Bob M will work with Chip to check spreadsheet numbers. ** Rich will post both of these items. Chip proposal: Pass pointer to Myrinet board where primitive communications software resides. Pointer would allow bypassing a data copy. On board communications software might handle strides, also. **Chip will draft a list of API criteria to be circulated for discussion. 3.) Report on software discussion at meeting of the "Lattice Hadron Physics Collaboration" (The LHPC is a collaboration of several universities and labs, including MIT and JLab.) Edwards and Brower: The LHPC discussed adopting a common language. SZIN will be used for now. Also exploring "Q" written by Pochinski. Rich question for thought: Could we ever agree on a common highest level application (meta)language? Bob M question: Can we agree on a common data format at the low level? (e.e. SU(3) matrix layout, dirac spinors, lattice arrays etc.) ** Mawhinney to attempt to draft a list of standard data formats for gauge fields and fermions. ** Compare data formats in use for SZIN(Bob E), CPS(Bob M) and MILC(Carleton) 4.) Discusion of particular tasks for this summer. Rich drafted a list of summer tasks **All committee members to revise list of summer tasks Holmgren and Mawhinney had to leave at 4:10 PM EDT. Call concluded at 4:15 PM EDT.
