Theory: In the human eye, images persist for a fraction of a second. This can be demonstrated by shining a strobe light on a rotating object, particularly a rotating disk with a pattern on it.

Description: Choose 1 of the ten disks and mount it on the rotator using the spindle. Set the rotator to about 25. You can usually get a variety of patterns with each disk; the easiest way to find a stable, or oscillating, pattern is to fix the rotation frequency and scan through the frequency range of the strobe light.

Setup time: 5 minutes.
